“Musgo” = must go’s from items used in cooking soup. Very often there are items used in making Chinese soup that we don’t generally want to eat but feel it’s a big waste just throwing them away. Here we’ve taken some items out to fry with leftovers from Chinese New Year meals too!
The main ingredient here is garlic shoot, so cut these into small pieces. Also cut up all the leftover ingredients.
Here, there’s shiitake mushrooms and sea whelks from making soup and meats from a Peking duck.If Chinese chives are available cut some of these as well.
Heat a clean pan, place the mushrooms on and let the water from inside the mushrooms be dried off and set aside.
Heat up a pan with oil, throw in some garlic and shallots and add in the garlic shoots along with the left over ingredients apart from the Chinese chives.
Give it a quick stir fry then add sugar, a dash of wine and some black pepper. Add some Hoisin sauce (which came with the leftover Peking Duck) and some cumin powder. Lastly add the Chinese chives and give it a few stirs and tosses and plate.
A simple no wastage dish that goes perfectly with a plain bowl of rice 🍚 or congee!
•PS You can use other leftover ingredients to go with garlic shoots for this dish
•PPS If you don’t have Hoisin sauce it can be substituted with oyster sauce or even soy sauce
•PPPS Add chilli 🌶 if you like it spicy
